What is your approach to pediatric care?
“I try to encompass the whole family in my care and focus on their needs and concerns while always keeping in mind what is best for the child. When a patient comes in with an illness, injury or other concern, I try not to only look at the appropriate immediate treatment, I also try to think about the contributing factors, any preventative measures, and consider what can be done to prevent it from happening again.”
What do you say to new parents most often?
“Congratulations!” I also impart that as providers in the office, we can always be contacted. Do not hesitate to call—there are no silly questions! I especially emphasize that with parents of newborns. I would also like to tell parents to stay off the Internet when their child has a health issue—call us instead!”
Why did you choose to become a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner?
“I wanted the autonomy to provide more direct patient care than I could as a registered nurse. As a CPNP, I can assess, diagnose, treat and follow up with patients. I also enjoy the opportunity to be involved with the family and child as they are growing.
